How did I get one of the coolest jobs in the music industry?
About 15 years ago I was just working my regular job when my church piano tuner Jack convinced me to take a home study tuning course to become a piano tuner.
What really got my attention g was that Jack was making about $600 a day and making it look easy.
I thought, if there is even a small possibility that I could do the same thing…. It’s worth a try.
It was true…. Th are are SO MAMY Pianos to tune and noT enough tuners to do all the work.
Plus many tuners are old and nearing retirement.
They either pass away or just turn off the per phone and querulous retire as they get older.
Right now its a perfect storm of opportunity for young techs to make a ton of money working in this creating and technical field of music.
Just last week I tuned for Garth Brooks’s piano player…. And every day is an adventure.
I meet so many amazing musicians. It’s truly the best job I’ve ever done.
