This is a very recommended tuning lever for its versatility.

Eben Goresko presents a Temperament Recital at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2000 where he demonstrates the usefulness and artfulness of tuning modern pianos in historic intonations to augment performances of Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Schubert, Bach, Mozart and other so called “equal temperament” composers.

Note from Mario Bruneau:  did you noticed Mr. Eben Goresko uses a ball handle tuning lever?  This is what I use myself and on this site, you will get video tutorials about how to use the ball handle tuning lever.

Tune a piano without tools

Here is an example of a “do it yourself DIY” approach that is completely out of line.

This gentleman does not take into account the physics of the piano structure when starting to tune from the treble notes which are the shortest strings.

Also, he doesn’t know that if the piano is off by more than 10 cents, one can not achieve a successful tuning with just one regular tuning run.

What tools do you need to tune a piano?

I watched a video on youtube on how to tune a piano -One I saw was by ear and another was by using specific tools. My friend plays guitar and owns the digital sound device (?) will that same device work on my piano?

What are the actual tools called? (for tightening) And how much do they go for? – Thanks! Also is there any household products I could use to tune?

What is involved in tuning a piano?

Can piano tuning be performed reasonably by an amateur with inexpensive tools, or is it best to hire a professional?

Would tuning fix a couple of keys that produce antique sound rather than normal sound?

I would like to tune my piano with something like a Korg TM-40. Will this really sense the key that i hit and tell me the frequency for ALL 88 keys ? If not what do you recommend ? I am aware of the tuning tools and tricks… I just want a reliable electronic tuner that I can set next to the strings and it will tell me that it is too high/ too low.
